Tour to Bromsgrove School 10-13 August 2018.
The U13s group of 12 highly excited players and raring to go after a good season performed exceptionally well in the 3 tour games they played winning 2 of them.
The boys arrived on a lovely evening at Bromsgrove School of Friday, 10th August; the dinner and evening 6-a-side football that followed against a mixed opposition side charged them up well for the next day’s big game.
Match summary is as follows:
11 Aug - Wiltshire (40-over game), lost:
We won the toss and batted first with Zaid Faleel and Vedant Somal opening and giving a good start of 40 before Zaid (16) was caught out and then Jake Tarling (10), Edward Pipe (17) and Thomas Hayward (13) played around Somal who retired on 56 to come back in the 37th over and went onto bat till the last man got run out. Somal carried his bat through the innings and scored a solid 73-not-out which comprised of 4x4 and 2x6. We scored 180 all-out.
We started well with the ball with Captain Sam Manning getting his out swingers working and getting a wicket straight away with his out-swinger taking the bat’s edge flying to waiting Somal at the 3rd slip. However we could not get any more breakthrough and Wiltshire reached the target in the 33rd over.
12 Aug - The day was a wash-out because of the heavy rains and we didn’t get to play the scheduled match against Guernsey however the boys had loads of fun playing 2 indoor matches and winning both of them against Wiltshire and Lincolnshire.
To make up for the loss of day, the teams decided to play 2 T-20 matches the following day.
13 Aug - Guernsey (T-20), won:
We won the toss and batted first. Due to the dampness and wet wicket our openers Sam Wells and Aryan Sisodia started cautiously and after a solid opening stand of 31 in 6 overs Sisodia got run-out and we then lost a few quick wickets but Hayward (12) and skipper Manning (23) steadied the innings and got us to a respectable 132 in 20 overs.
We bowled very well with wickets shared between Tarling, Pipe and Joshua Stewart. The fielding was also good with Pipe and Somal getting direct-hit run-outs. We won comfortably as Guernsey could manage 91 off their 20 overs.
13 Aug - Lincolnshire (T-20), we won:
We won the toss and batted first but lost the openers in quick succession early-on. Somal and Tarling steadied the innings with a good partnership of 48 was broken when Somal (19) got out. Ryan Chambers joined Tarling and both of them played their powerful shots for a partnership of another 50 runs before Chambers departed after a super innings of 24 (16 balls with 2x6). Charlie Blythman joined Tarling and both of them again pushed the scoring rate and got the team total to 154 off the 20 overs. Blythman scored 16 runs which included a delightful ramp shot. Jake Tarling gave the impetus to the team in the middle scoring 64 not-out of just 32 balls which comprised of 9x4 and 2x6 and a ball was lost in the trees off one of his sixes!
We restricted Lincolnshire to just 104 with very tight bowling and great fielding performances by Harry Wotton Evans who was brilliant at the short covers and didn’t allow anything to go through and Faleel and Chambers getting their throws in for the run-outs. Faleel and Sisodia took 2 wickets each and Wells took 1 wicket.
Overall, it was a very commendable overall performance from all the boys with the bat, ball and fielding and was a great experience of them staying together in the dorm which was great for their team-bonding and reflected in their on-field performances.
Well done to all the boys.
