23rd to 27th July.
Report by Stuart Sheath, Under 14 Manager
BYC’s u14 squad set off for Ampleforth with a fabulous weather forecast ahead for 5 days of tough looking matches. The boys performed really strongly, winning 4 of 5 matches and there were some fine individual performances as well as a strong team ethos. Well done to all the boys, especially the U13 boys who stepped up to the older group and performed creditably.
Results were as follows:
Suffolk, won by 7 wickets, not out 50’s for Nabil Moughal and Daud Haroon (including an unbeaten partnership of 101), 4 wickets for Dilan Sheemar, 3 for Jake Tarling.
Cumbria, won by 60 runs, maiden 100 for Jake Tarling with 126 not out and 51 not out for Vedant Somal, made in an unbroken 10th wicket partnership of 128. Jake’s innings from 95 balls. 3 wickets for Somal and 3 for Haroon.
California lost by 7 wickets with 59 for Nabil Moughal. This was a big set back for the boys after two good wins and meant we didn’t finish in the top 4 for the second part of the festival. They could easily have dropped their heads in disappointment at that point!
But, next results were:
Cleveland, win by 7 wickets on net run rate due to rain. Jonathan Huggins 75 and Vedant 48 in an opening partnership of 143.
Finally win over the “Barmy Army” Youth with a 4 wicket win in a t20. 2 wickets for Dilan and 3 for Nabil. 38 for Ismaeel Naeem and 46 not out for Jake.
Jake also finished a very close 2nd in the top scoring charts at the whole festival.
There were also some fantastic performances with the ball and in the field not mentioned above, including Ismaeel and his “ball of the century”, strong all round fielding performances and contributions with the ball from Raoul Flora and George Mansell, Sam Manning with a number of hostile opening spells which were not rewarded in terms of wickets, some very fine off spin from Sam Wells and some excellent slow left arm on debut from Jush Patel
Thank you boys, it was a pleasure!
